B.Tech. - Information Technology
Information Technology is defined
as the study of the science of computing, data storage, data
analysis and communications. The recent developments in computer
technology, wireless and satellite communication and the
communication explosion through Internet, are bound to make a marked
change in the way businesses are done and the way we lead our lives.
These form the crux of "Information Technology" - the technology of
the coming decades.
IT Engineers solve technical,
organisational and management problems involving information -
collecting information, storing it, retrieving it from storage and
using it. Computer programs, databases, application programs,
communication networks, analysis and design methods, programming
languages are some of the major tools that IT Engineers work with.
Job opportunities
The Information Technology sector
is growing at a rapid pace and companies are experiencing a critical
need to recruit staff at all levels. This course will provide
students with the technical skills necessary to pursue a long and
varied career in the Information Technology sector. Specifically
they will be able to gain employment in roles such as software
developer and software engineer, or as supervisor/manager in
organisations which make extensive use of computer-based systems,
including manufacturing, financial and service industries. Many IT
engineers also get placed in software companies as computer
programmers and systems analysts.
Faculty
The department has a rare blend of
very dynamic youngsters guided by a group of eminent and experienced
professors.
About the department
The Department has a
state-of-the-art computer laboratory with more than 350 computers
(all PIVs) with latest hardware and software. Lots of importance is
given to practical learning and a sound understanding of the
theoretical part. The Department organizes endowment lectures by
engineers and academicians of national and international repute to
help the students to keep abreast with the latest developments in
the field of Information Technology. A technical symposium
christened "Esotercia" is organized regularly by inviting
participation from numerous colleges from different parts of the
country.
